Police have identified three suspects accused of extorting a 14-year-old boy in the coastal town of Porto Rafti, east of Athens, and forcing him to steal jewelry from his mother under threats of violence.
Authorities said the boy repeatedly handed over gold jewelry during May after the suspects allegedly threatened to beat him if he refused. The jewelry was valued at about €10,000.
According to police, the suspects – aged 15, 16 and 20 – sold the items to a gold-buying business in exchange for cash. Investigators have identified all three, but only the 16-year-old has been arrested so far. His mother was also detained and faces a charge related to inadequate supervision of a minor.
The suspects are accused of extortion and weapons-related offenses. A search of the 16-year-old’s home uncovered flares, a flare launcher and brass knuckles.
