Moegamat-Ridaa Botha

A Mitchells Plain student who once vowed to rise above his circumstances has achieved a major milestone, after qualifying as a medical doctor through the University of Cape Town (UCT) and preparing to begin his internship in Kimberley.

According to Cape Argus reporting, Moegamat-Ridaa Botha, 22, has completed his MBChB degree at UCT after being recognised in 2019 as one of the Western Cape’s top 40 matriculants while studying at Spine Road High School.

Botha has now been allocated to complete his further medical training in Kimberley, where he will begin his internship from 1 July.

As Youth Week is observed, Botha has also turned to public fundraising to assist with relocation and living costs. He launched a BackaBuddy campaign seeking R10 000 for his first month’s rental and basic expenses, a target he has since reached. He also shared his story through a seven-minute TikTok video, in which he appealed for additional support.
