UKZN doctor takes on gruelling Washie 100 Miler to raise R100,000 for medical students

From saving lives to changing futures: Specialist doctor runs Africa's toughest race for UKZN students.

Dr Sizwe Zungu knows exactly what it means to have someone believe in your dreams when the odds are stacked against you.

Now, nearly two decades after graduating from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), the specialist anaesthesiologist is pushing his body to its limits to ensure the next generation of doctors gets the same opportunity he once did.

As his MBChB Class of 2006 celebrates 20 years since graduating from UKZN, Zungu has turned the milestone into an opportunity to give back.

This weekend, he will tackle the gruelling 161km Washie 100 Miler in the Eastern Cape with one goal: raising R100,000 to help financially deserving UKZN medical students pay their registration fees.
