UCT academic Dr Zamambo Mkhize is preparing to make waves in the world of tennis, showcasing the beautiful blend of sport and scholarship as she represents South Africa on the international stage.
In an inspiring testament to dedication and perseverance, Dr Zamambo Mkhize, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and prominent academic at its African Gender Institute, has received the honour of representing South Africa at the upcoming International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Masters Tour World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. Set to take place over two weeks in August 2026, Mkhize's participation will include both a team event from August 2 to 8 and an individual tournament from August 10 to 15.
Mkhize's selection comes on the heels of an impressive trajectory in competitive tennis, highlighted by her recent triumph at the South African National Masters Tournament, where she showcased consistent performances that earned her the top rank in the women's 40-and-over category by November 2025.
