graduation story a feel good story
A childhood dream, encouragement from a local doctor and a father's unwavering belief in her potential have helped Dr Reitumetse Diphoko-Mabuya overcome tragedy and become a medical doctor serving her community.
The 28-year-old from Kroonstad is now a medical officer in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Boitumelo Hospital, where she helps women safely bring new life into the world. However, her journey to medicine was shaped by one of the most painful moments of her life.
At just 14 years old, Diphoko-Mabuya's world was turned upside down when she heard a gunshot inside her family home. She rushed to her parents' bedroom and found her father, Abram Neo Diphoko, dead.
The traumatic loss left a deep emotional scar, but it also strengthened her resolve to pursue the career her father had always envisioned for her.
