The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has accused operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group, popularly known as Operation Udo Ga Achi or Agunechemba, of unlawfully detaining a 68-year-old community leader, Chief John Nneli, despite the release of four other individuals arrested alongside him.

In a statement issued in June 2026, RULAAC expressed concern over what it described as troubling developments surrounding the continued detention of Chief Nneli, an indigene of Umudiani Village in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The statement was signed by the Executive Director of RULAAC, Okechukwu Nwanguma.

According to the rights organisation, credible information available to it indicates that four persons arrested together with Chief Nneli were released on Saturday, June 13, 2026, while the elderly community leader remained in custody.
