RULAAC said that security outfits established to combat crime are allegedly being deployed to settle private disputes and target citizens outside lawful procedures.

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has raised concerns over the increasing alleged misuse of state-backed security agencies in Anambra State.

RULAAC said that security outfits established to combat crime are allegedly being deployed to settle private disputes and target citizens outside lawful procedures.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, RULAAC expressed alarm over the arrest and detention of a 68-year-old resident of Umudiani Village, Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area, identified as John Nneli, by security operatives believed to be attached to the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG), popularly known as Operation Udo Ga Achi.

According to RULAAC, information available indicates that Nneli, his younger brother, and three of his sons were taken away during an early morning operation allegedly carried out in the company of individuals involved in a long-running land dispute with the family.
