The mortal remains of Sihle Makhaye arrived in South Africa, bringing a sense of closure to a family that has endured immense pain.
A KwaZulu-Natal family has finally found closure after Sihle Makhaye’s remains arrived at the King Shaka International Airport on Sunday afternoon, more than two months after his death in Russia on 28 March.
Makhaye, 44, from Kranskop, was lured to Russia with the promise of a security job.
On arrival, he was allegedly asked to sign a one-year contract to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war. He refused.
His fiancée, Sibonile Ndwandwe, was notified of his death on 28 March and on 8 April asked the KZN Department of Human Settlements to help repatriate his remains.
