After a long wait, Reuben Marsberg's family have received DNA confirmation that human remains found in Limpopo was that of their son, who went missing in November 2025.
The family of slain KwaZulu-Natal diesel mechanic Reuben “Ruby” Marsberg say they have been dealt a "devastating final outcome" after receiving official DNA confirmation that human remains discovered in Limpopo last December are those of their son.
The 22-year-old Howick local went missing from a farm in Levubu, outside Louis Trichardt, on November 26, 2025, shortly after relocating to Limpopo for work. His disappearance sparked a massive provincial search operation and an outpouring of community support.
In December last year, a severely decomposed body wrapped in a blanket was discovered in the bushes near a correctional facility in Makhado. Authorities initiated DNA testing at the time to formally identify the deceased, a process that concluded this week.
In a statement issued by the Marsberg family, they confirmed the identity match but noted that the confirmation has reopened deep emotional wounds.
