Pietermaritzburg businessman Anesen Pillay.

After days of holding onto hope, the family of missing Northdale businessman Anesen Pillay has received confirmation that the human remains found inside his burnt vehicle are his.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that DNA results had identified the remains as those of the 48-year-old businessman, who was reported missing on August 29.

Two suspects, aged 22 and 32, were arrested in the Pietermaritzburg CBD on Saturday and charged with murder.

“The pair made a brief appearance in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, and were remanded in custody. The matter was postponed to today (Wednesday), when a third suspect is expected to be added to the case,” said Netshiunda.
