U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 1.3% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 1%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 1.2% in morning trading. TUI rose 7.6% and Kion Group added 6.7%. On the other hand, Kesko Series B slipped 8.4%, and Var Energi fell 5.7%. The FTSE 100 added 0.8%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France's CAC 40 increased 1.6% and Germany's DAX climbed 1.7%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index fell 0.2% to 96.1.
In commodities, Brent crude fell 5% to $82.98 a barrel, and WTI crude dropped 5.2% to $80.43 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 6.1% to 43.93 euros a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield fell by 4 basis points to 2.955% from 3%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 5 basis points to 4.439% from 4.489%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
