The group alleged that security agencies deliberately enabled pro-government supporters to occupy traditional protest grounds in a bid to suppress dissent.

The Youth Rights Campaign (YRC) has accused the Lagos State Police Command and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of colluding to frustrate and crush anti-hunger and anti-insecurity protests held in Lagos on June 12, during the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

The group alleged that security agencies deliberately enabled pro-government supporters to occupy traditional protest grounds in a bid to suppress dissent.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National Coordinator, Michael Adaramoye (Lenin), and National Secretary, Francis Nwapa, YRC condemned the conduct of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ikeja Police Station, CSP Akinwunmi Oke, and the Lagos State Police Command during the nationwide June 12 peaceful protest.

According to the group, the actions of the police exposed what it described as the Nigerian state's double standards in dealing with supporters of the government and citizens exercising their constitutional right to protest against insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and rising living costs.
