Running for a cause: Mahesh Ratanjee's mission to uplift children through the Comrades Marathon

DURBAN athlete Mahesh Ratanjee hopes to raise R200,000 to make a difference in the lives of children, as he takes on his fourth Comrades Marathon.

The 99th ultramarathon will be an up-run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.

Ratanjee, 51, is one of Community Chest Durban and Pietermaritzburg's dedicated “Superhero Runners” participating in the Race4Charity initiative linked to this year’s Comrades.

In 2025, Ratanjee was honoured as the Comrades Marathon Association's Top Charity Fundraiser of the Year for the second consecutive year after raising R320,000 for Community Chest.
