The opposition party said the government's reaction to Bishop Onah's sermon amounted to an attempt to silence a moral voice that spoke on issues affecting the people of Nsukka zone.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State has faulted the administration of Governor Peter Mbah over its response to the recent criticism by the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, urging the government to address the concerns raised by the cleric instead of attacking him.

The opposition party said the government's reaction to Bishop Onah's sermon amounted to an attempt to silence a moral voice that spoke on issues affecting the people of Nsukka zone.

Bishop Onah had, in a sermon that has since gone viral, expressed concerns over the demolition of shops at Ogige Market, Nsukka, and what he described as the neglect of the entire Nsukka zone, comprising Nsukka, Udenu, Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze South, Igbo-Eze North and Uzo-Uwani local government areas.

The cleric criticised political leaders from the area, accusing them of misleading the government into believing that all was well despite the hardships facing residents.
