The Church described as "uncharitable and misleading" Onyishi's public twisting of a pastoral message delivered during the burial of a deceased catechist, John Attah.

The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka has forcefully hit back at the Enugu State government, condemning a malicious attempt by a senior political aide to weaponise a funeral sermon and drag the Church into a partisan political narrative.

In a statement dated June 12, 2026, signed by the Director of Communications, Fr. Emmanuel I. Asadu, made available to SaharaReporters on Saturday, the Diocese lambasted Mr. Reuben Onyishi, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Peter Mbah.

The Church described as "uncharitable and misleading" Onyishi's public twisting of a pastoral message delivered during the burial of a deceased catechist, John Attah.

SaharaReporters gathered that Attah was one of several local traders who reportedly suffered fatal medical emergencies, including terminal strokes, following the aggressive demolition of their shops at the popular Ogige Market in Nsukka by the Governor Mbah-led administration.
