He also heavily criticised the current administration's taxation strategy, which he argues is suffocating local commerce.

Chief Ocho Obodoeze, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State, has raised alarms over the state's soaring debt profile under the administration of Governor Peter Mbah.

In a statement released on Friday titled, “A call for Accountability and a New Direction, Setting the record straight on governance priorities ahead of 2027,” Obodoeze challenged the state government to ensure that its massive borrowing translates directly into job creation and visible, completed projects.

The ADC candidate urged the people of Enugu to move their political conversations beyond "media optics" and focus on the daily realities of citizens, noting that despite the government’s claims of multisectoral transformation, families are still struggling with basic issues like debt, taxes, water, and security.

Central to Obodoeze’s criticism is the latest data from the Debt Management Office (DMO), which highlights a stark increase in the state's financial liabilities. Obodoeze warned against an over-reliance on loans that could jeopardise the state's future.
