Sowore, in a statement shared on social media, condemned the “brutal and coordinated attack” by security operatives, insisting that the use of force was not an isolated incident but part of a broader political strategy to intimidate dissenting voices.
Human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has lambasted the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government for attempting to systematically suppress opposition voices through violent crowd-control tactics, following the confrontation with police operatives during the Democracy Day protest in Abuja.
Sowore, in a statement shared on social media, condemned the “brutal and coordinated attack” by security operatives, insisting that the use of force was not an isolated incident but part of a broader political strategy to intimidate dissenting voices.
“REPRESSION HAS NEVER DEFEATED A JUST CAUSE,” Sowore wrote, maintaining that he would not retreat in the face of what he called state-sponsored intimidation.
He noted that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force deployed chemical agents at close range during the protest, a tactic he said endangered his life and left him temporarily unable to breathe.
