Every day, countless lives in South Africa depend on blood donations. As we approach World Blood Donor Day on 14 June, discover how you can become a hero by giving blood and saving lives.

Somewhere in South Africa today, a child undergoing cancer treatment will need a blood transfusion. A mother experiencing complications during childbirth may require emergency blood products. A trauma patient injured in a road accident may depend on donated blood to survive.

While most South Africans go about their daily lives unaware of these realities, thousands of patients rely on blood donations every day. The challenge is that blood cannot be manufactured. It can only come from people willing to donate.

As the world marks World Blood Donor Day on 14 June, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is calling on South Africans to embrace this year's theme: "One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives."

The theme serves as a reminder that behind every blood donation is a simple act of compassion that can change the course of someone's life.
