In under two hours, blood donors contributed almost 6,000 millilitres of blood, enough to potentially save up to 50 lives, as the National Blood Drive Initiative was launched on Monday.
This was done in observance of World Blood Donor Day, under the theme “One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood, Save Lives, “Sina matāua o lou Alofa – foa'i lou toto e fa'aola ai ita.
Through this event, the Samoan community joined the global community in recognising and celebrating the selfless individuals whose generosity helps save lives every day through voluntary blood donation.
The initiative was led by Miss Samoa 2025, Feagaimaalii Soti Mapu, in partnership with the Ministry of Health Laboratory Services, the Samoa Red Cross Society, and the Pacific-Australia Youth Association (PAYA).
In attendance were government representatives, youth organisations, corporate stakeholders, volunteers, expatriates, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and representatives from a range of public and private sector organisations.
