The Special Court for POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act cases has jailed a self-styled preacher to 7 years imprisonment for sexually harassing a 7-year-old girl.According to prosecution, 59-year-old Selvaraj from Vadakkankulam sexually harassed a 7-year-old girl from a village under Valliyoor Police Sub-Division in 2020. Based on the complaint from the girl’s mother, the Valliyoor All Women Police arrested Selvaraj.The magistrate of Special Court for POCSO Cases Suresh Kumar awarded 7 years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Selvaraj on Thursday.Moreover, the magistrate directed the government to give a compensation of ₹1 lakh to the victim.Superintendent of Police V. Prassannakumar said 12 accused in as many POCSO cases have been convicted in the district since January this year. Of this, one has received capital punishment, two others imprisonment until death and two more life imprisonment. 25 years imprisonment was awarded to one more accused.
