A Special Court for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Chengalpattu has convicted and sentenced a 56-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a six-year-old girl in 2018.The police said that on July 2, 2018, the six-year-old child was forcibly taken by R. Narayanan of Tirusulam, when she went to play near his house in Pallavaram. Based on a complaint given by the child’s parents, the All-Women Police arrested Narayanan and booked a case against him under Section 366 (Abduction) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 (Punishment of aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act. After completing the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused in the special court in Chengalpattu in August 2019.Thirteen witnesses were examined and 16 documents were marked by the prosecution. At the conclusion of trial, the court sentenced him to undergo 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for abduction and another 10 years under the provision of the POCSO Act.
