District Collector Anand Mohan inspected the ongoing development works and the quality of roads laid in the coastal areas of the district on Wednesday.As the fishermen of Thomaiyarpuram near Radhapuram had appealed to the government for constructing groyne in their hamlet to save their fibreglass boats and their properties near shoreline from sea erosion, the government has proposed to build this structure in the sea on an outlay of ₹16.05 crore to neutralise monstrous tides.After inspecting the starting points from where the groyne is to be constructed in the sea, the Collector discussed about its implementation with the officials.Mr. Anand Mohan reviewed the progress of the road laying work for 2.77 km at Vijayapathi village at the cost of ₹1.90 crore and the Siluvaiyanpillai channel-widening work. When he grew suspicious about the quality of this newly laid road laid for 750 meters in this area, Mr. Anand Mohan lifted sample from the road and measured the thickness of the road. He asked the officials to sent the samples of this road for quality test.“The quality report should be submitted to me at the earliest,” he said.While inspecting the domestic drinking water connections at Idinthakarai village, the Collector interacted with the villagers to understand if the water being supplied to this coastal hamlet was in desirable quality and quantity.During the review meeting he had at Radhapuram tahsildar office, Mr. Anand Mohan took a look into the proposals submitted to the government for new roads, bridges, culverts, buildings etc. in the coastal villages of the district.Assistant Director (Village Panchayat – Audit) Ingersol, Radhapuram tahsildar Villudaiyar, Block Development Officer Samuel Raj and others accompanied the Collector during inspection.
