Collector Anand Mohan inspected the functioning of industrial units in Gangaikondan SIPCOT complex and reviewed the development works on Saturday.At present, 106 industrial units are being operated under various sectors in Gangaikondan SIPCOT. The SIPCOT plays a major role in industrial development of the district and has emerged as a major industrial hub for new industrial investment and employment generation.The Collector visited several industrial units including TP Solar and food park established by the Agriculture Department of the State Government.He interacted with workers and enquired about production activities, how they commuted to work, job role and other details including wages. He also enquired about productivity of the industries, workers’ welfare, expansion plans of the companies and infrastructure facilities required for industrial development.Subsequently, Mr. Mohan inspected the construction of a working women’s hostel at an estimated cost of ₹39.63 crore, to accommodate 870 working women. He enquired with officials about the progress of construction and basic facilities including dormitories, drinking water, electricity and sanitation. He directed the officials to complete the work within stipulated time while ensuring quality.Mr. Mohan then chaired a consultation meeting with representatives of industrial establishments and company owners operating in Gangaikondan SIPCOT. At the meeting, representatives from the establishments presented their expansion plans and other facilities required for industrial development. Among the key demands were a separate police station for the complex, establishment of a separate power station and improved transport facilities.Mr. Mohan said necessary action would be taken for the overall development of Ganagikondan SIPCOT complex and demands made by the companies would be brought to the notice of the State government and appropriate action taken.SIPCOT Revenue Officer Sukanya, SIPCOT Project Officer Karthikeyan and other officials were present.
