OTTAWA — Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon says Quebec’s support is essential to build Canada’s first high-speed rail line, after the province’s separatist party said it would drop out of the Alto megaproject if it takes power in this fall’s high-stakes election.
“Let’s be clear, there is no Alto project without Quebec,” MacKinnon said in French, referring to the Crown corporation overseeing plans for a new high-speed rail line from Toronto to Quebec City.
