A practical session on investigation of an accident under way at a training for Head Constables and Special Sub Inspectors of Police in Tiruchi on Monday.

A three-day training in investigation of cases and handling of petitions for Head Constables and Special Sub Inspectors of police got under way in the city on Monday.The training seeks to enhance the investigation skills and petition-handling capabilities of police personnel in accordance with the provisions of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).The initiative comes in the wake of the State government empowering, through an order issued in October 2025, police personnel in the rank of Head Constables and above to carry out investigation of cases under the directions of the officer-in-charge of the police station. The provision is meant to facilitate speedy investigation and disposal of pending investigation by utilising trained Head Constables and Special Sub-Inspectors. They would examine witnesses and record statements under Section 180(3) of BNSS after due authorisation by the Investigating Officer.The three-day training, comprising both theory and practical sessions, was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner N. Kamini The training is being conducted under the supervision of Shristi Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi South.On the inaugural day, 60 police personnel in the ranks of Head Constable and Special Sub-Inspectors participated. The training sessions covered various aspects, including investigation of simple hurt cases; non-fatal accident; death by hanging, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and prohibition cases; petition handling procedures and do’s and don’ts in bandobust duty.The sessions were handled by senior police officers and subject experts, including Assistant Commissioners and Inspectors of Police. The training is expected to strengthen the investigative capabilities of field-level police personnel and contribute to the efficient disposal of cases and petitions, said a press release from the city police.
