Joseph Sunday Elijah, the son of a detained Akwa Ibom woman, Princess Godsown Odoito, has accused Governor Umo Eno of orchestrating his mother's arrest and continued detention.
Odoito, who is from Esit Eket and Eket Local Government Areas of the state, was arrested after speaking out against the alleged destruction of farmlands by BUA Company in a forest reserve used by farmers from the two communities, Elijah claimed.
Narrating the incident to SaharaReporters, Elijah said the dispute began in 2022 when BUA Company suddenly entered a forest reserve where residents had long farmed with permission from forestry authorities.
According to him, the company allegedly destroyed farms and structures belonging to local farmers without compensation, leaving many families devastated.
