The notification on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication will come soon. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is working on it, Minister Nitin Gadkari told businesslineon Monday.“Yes, we are getting the frequencies (from the Ministry of Communications) required for the V2V communications and we will soon notify. Such a technology will help reduce a lot of accidents on the roads,” Gadkari said. The V2V communication allows vehicles to swap real-time safety data, serving as a vital global tool for accident prevention. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) was supposed to de-license the 5.875-5.925 GHz spectrum band, which can be used for V2V communications.Last week businessline reported that MoRTH has to work on mandating V2V deployment in vehicles including two-wheelers, and what kind of device and what specifications for such technology to be installed in the vehicles.Meanwhile, speaking at an event organised by ride hailing platform Rapido, Gadkari said India records nearly five-lakh road accidents and 1.80 lakh fatalities every year.“Road safety is a shared responsibility and citizen participation is critical to reducing fatalities on our roads...Our biggest problem is changing public behaviour and enforcing traffic laws,” he noted. The number of road accident fatalities in India went up by 2.3 per cent to over 1.77 lakh in 2024, resulting in the deaths of 485 people every day.Gadkari said that is why the MoRTH notified the Good Samaritan Rules in 2020 under Section 134A of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 to support and protect those who step forward in such moments.“Through the Rah-Veer Scheme, we seek to encourage individuals to assist accident victims without hesitation and help save lives during the Golden Hour,” he said.Under the ‘Rah-Veer’ (Good Samaritan) scheme, anyone who helps an accident victim receive medical attention within the Golden Hour is eligible for a ₹25,000 reward and a Certificate of Appreciation, with recognition available up to five times a year for repeat acts of bravery.Gadkari added that the Centre has also come up with a modified scheme to provide cashless treatment for road accident victims nationwide, under which a victim is entitled to a maximum amount of ₹1.5 lakh per accident for a maximum period of seven-days, from the date of the accident.Published on June 8, 2026
