Rapido to sensitise its drivers for Rahveer scheme

Timely intervention during road accident can help reduce mortality by 30%, said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). He said that India witnesses 5 lakh road accidents and 1.80 lakh fatalities every year.The Union Transport Minister was introducing the MoRTH’s Rahveer scheme that promises ₹25,000 to the first respondent in a road accident. He said that government will bear the cost for the first seven days and up to ₹1.50 lakh.He announced this initiative with Rapido to encourage their driver partners assist road accident victim/s during the critical hour. Rapido said that it will reach out to and sensitise their driver partners during on-boarding, through interaction and social media campaigns to help the accident victims.Aravind Sanka, the co-founder of Rapido said that Rapido has a network of 30 lakh drivers on its network and 20 crore rides are being done in a quarter. These drivers can be among the first respondents in case of a road accidents and help save lives.Rapido is currently present in 400 cities across India and sees Tier 3 and 4 towns for further expansion.
