Applications are now open for the Helmut Schmidt Programme, a prestigious scholarship scheme funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), offering outstanding students from developing countries the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in Germany in fields related to public policy and good governance.
Named after former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, the programme aims to support future leaders who are committed to promoting democracy, social justice, and sustainable development in their home countries. The scholarship is available to applicants from most Arab countries, with the exception of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Successful candidates will be able to enrol in one of seven internationally oriented master’s programmes taught entirely in English at German higher education institutions. Study areas include public policy, governance and development, social protection, administration, and peace and conflict studies.
The scholarship covers full tuition fees and provides a monthly stipend of €992, along with health insurance, travel support, and additional funding for study and research activities. A German language course is also included, while extra allowances for accommodation or accompanying family members may be available in certain cases.
