Calling upon the citizens to devote at least 20 minutes a day to physical exercises or sports activities, Mandya Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.R. Nandini said a healthy society can be built only when citizens are physically and mentally fit.She was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ and ‘Swachhata Ride’ campaigns organised as part of the Fit India Movement and World Bicycle Day 2026 at the Zilla Panchayat premises in Mandya on Sunday.She said that the awareness rally had been organised with the slogan ‘Let food be our medicine; let us keep our bodies fit’, with the objective of promoting cycling and creating awareness about building a healthy society.The programme was also aimed at promoting cleanliness and sanitation alongside good health. She noted that increased cycling can reduce vehicular traffic, improve health, and contribute to a cleaner environment.Pointing out that health problems are increasing due to mental stress and a lack of physical activity, she urged citizens to make at least 20 minutes of exercise a part of their daily routine.Emphasising that “food is health and health is life”, she said that nutritious food and good health are essential for both physical and mental well-being. Therefore, food and health should be regarded as inseparable parts of life, she added.Mandya Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Shivalingaiah, Joint Director of the Agriculture Department V.S. Ashok, Joint Director of the Horticulture Department Roopashree, an official from the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Manjushree, Mandya District AYUSH Medical Officer Pushpall, and other district-level officials were also present.
