Collector Vishu Mahajan on Saturday inspected the dairy products manufacturing unit of Thoothukudi District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited, at Aniyaparanallur in Srivaikuntam taluk.The dairy products unit was constructed at a cost of around ₹46 crore, manufactures value added milk products such as ghee, curd and others. The inspection was part of the collector’s visit to Srivaikuntam and Eral taluk, to review the progress of various welfare schemes and projects being implemented across the region.During the visit, Mr. Mahajan interacted with women beneficiaries of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at SriMoolakarai panchayat. He enquired about the skill development training being provided to the members through ‘Mahalir Thittam’ of Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission and reviewed the loan assistance being extended to SHG members to promote livelihood activities.He also visited the residences of women who availed loans through the ‘Mahalir Thittam’ scheme for cattle rearing. The Collector assessed the impact of the initiative on their income generation and overall livelihood development.He further reviewed the Karungulam-Srivaikuntam stretch of Karumeniyar river linking project, a long pending demand of farmers in the region aimed at improving the water availability for irrigation and agriculture.Mr. Mahajan later inspected the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Boards (TWAD) treatment plant in Manjalneerkayal in Eral taluk and reviewed its operations.Project director (Mahalir thittam) Nagarajan, Deputy Director (Health) Yazhini and other officials were present.
