M. Birathiviraj, a 2019 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, on Friday assumed office as the Commissioner of Karur Corporation. He is the first IAS officer to hold the post of Karur Corporation since it was upgraded from municipality in 2021. Prior to this, Mr. Birathiviraj was Deputy Secretary, Revenue, in Greater Chennai Corporation. He played a key role in floating municipal and green bond generating ₹405 crore for the Corporation. He has worked as Deputy Secretary, Finance, Additional Collector in Nagapattinam, and Sub Collector in Sivakasi. Published - June 05, 2026 07:35 pm IST
