Chitra Vijayan, Commissioner of Madurai Corporation, was transferred to Greater Chennai Corporation on Saturday.The young officer from the 2019 batch IAS was the first woman to head the civic body. She was posted here on February 2025.Within a short span, she was instrumental in bringing out many innovative ideas which brought in higher revenue for the civic body.She encouraged the heads of many schools run by the Corporation which in turn helped the students bring laurels in public examinations.She motivated many deserving and genuine NGOs such as the MS Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation which conducted Happy Schooling programmes for the students.She also handled the council meetings ably whenever there was criticism from the elected members.Within a short stint, Ms. Chitra Vijayan brought in visible change towards transformation of the ancient city especially in the health, revenue and ecosystem.
