Severe rainfall has once again caused flooding across parts of Bulgaria, with villages in the Varna region, the Veliko Tarnovo area, and Kotel among the hardest-hit locations. In several communities, residents are dealing with flood damage for the second time in less than a week as rivers and drainage systems struggled to cope with the volume of water.

One of the most affected places is the village of Medovets in Dalgopol Municipality, Varna Region, where homes, yards, and farm buildings were inundated after another wave of torrential rain. Local authorities declared a partial state of emergency as floodwaters swept through the settlement. The latest incident comes only days after previous flooding struck the area, leaving residents facing repeated losses.

Speaking after the disaster, Medovets Mayor Mustafa Ismail acknowledged that inadequate maintenance of local ravines may have contributed to the situation. “We are partly to blame because we have not cleaned the ravines, but we do not have the funds,” he said. While no residents were reported injured or trapped, he noted that the material damage was extensive.

A partial state of emergency has also been introduced in nearby Valchi Dol Municipality because of rising levels at the General Kolev Dam. Authorities have begun a controlled release of water to reduce pressure on the reservoir. Floodwaters have already affected houses and yards in the village of General Kolevo, although no people have been reported in danger.
