The comprehensive drinking water supply and underground sewerage projects that are being executed in various residential areas along Rajiv Gandhi Salai or Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and the southern fringes of the city must be completed within the stipulated time, Chennai Metrowater Managing Director T. Anand said here on Thursday.He inspected the ongoing works being implemented at a cost of ₹573.78 crore in Sholinganallur zone, Kannagi Nagar, Okkiam-Thoraipakkam, and Semmenchery. A press release said in Semmenchery, work was being carried out to lay water pipelines for nearly 25.15 km and construct two overhead water tanks to supply about 1,100 households. Nearly 51,114 residents are estimated to benefit from the scheme. Similar works are being implemented at Kannagi Nagar and on OMR.Among the sewer projects in the southern fringes of the city, work is under way to construct five sewage pumping stations and lay pipelines for a length of 69 km in Okkiam-Thoraipakkam. Sewage connections will be provided to 14,310 households. Senior officials of the Metrowater were present during the inspection. Published - June 04, 2026 08:05 pm IST
