Chennai Metrowater Managing Director T. Anand, on Tuesday, inspected the operation of Chembarambakkam water treatment plant and water storage infrastructure created at abandoned quarries at Sikkarayapuram and Erumaiyur.A press release said water is supplied to nearly 20 lakh residents, including to those in the Adyar and Alandur zones and the neighbouring Tambaram Corporation from the Chembarambakkam water treatment plant.Mr. Anand also inspected the buffer water sources created at Erumaiyur and Sikkarayapuram quarries. With a storage capacity of 0.50 thousand million cubic feet (mcft), Sikkarayapuram quarries now have a storage of 0.37 tmc.However, the water agency does not have plans to use the buffer sources now as reservoirs have sufficient storage.
