In a major boost to tourism and infrastructure development in the capital region, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal to invite competitive bids for the development of the proposed ‘Amaravati Eye’, a giant observation wheel on the banks of the Krishna River, envisioned as a landmark attraction similar to the famed London Eye.Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said the project would be developed on six acres of the APCRDA land under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model, with a concession period of 30 years. The project is expected to become a major tourist attraction, providing panoramic views of Amaravati and the Krishna riverfront.The Cabinet also approved administrative sanction of ₹547 crore for external development works associated with the Andhra Pradesh High Court complex in Amaravati.The works include rooftop architectural features, parking facilities, security pavilions, water bodies, internal roads, substations, judges’ drop-off areas and other supporting infrastructure. Permission was granted to initiate the tender process under the Design Build Lump Sum Contract system.In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the issuance of a letter of acceptance to the lowest bidder for additional works in the All India Services residential complex at Rayapudi. The project, valued at ₹95 crore, covers home automation systems, additional wardrobes, parking sheds, glazed railings, tensile roofing, transformers, HVAC systems and other electrical works.Negotiated Settlement PolicyThe Cabinet also approved amendments to the Negotiated Settlement Policy governing land pooling and development in the capital region. The revisions consolidate and refine earlier government orders to facilitate smoother implementation.It also approved recommendations of the Ministers’ Committee on new land allotments and review of previous allocations in the CRDA region.The decision covers 13 proposals involving 42.60 acres, including modifications in allotments to government institutions, change of land use approvals, cancellation of inactive projects and confirmation of land allocation for a convention centre project.The Cabinet also exempted registration of 49.66 acres allotted for the Amaravati Quantum Valley project from stamp duty, registration charges and other fees. The exemption is expected to save about ₹5.53 crore and expedite development of the proposed research and innovation hub. Published - June 04, 2026 08:19 pm IST
