TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE, Philippines — Three fishers from Cebu were rescued off the waters of Sambawan Island in Maripipi, Biliran, after their motorized banca capsized amid rough sea conditions, leaving them stranded at sea for several hours, authorities said on Tuesday, June 2.
The fishers, all residents of Daanbantayan, Cebu, were retrieved through a rescue operation involving personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station Maripipi and crew members of Sambawan Island Beach Resort.
Authorities identified the rescued fishers as Edgar Pitogo, 50; Joey Casinilyo, 62; and Dennis Aribado, 36.
According to initial reports, the three were retrieving their fish traps, locally known as “bobo,” at around 11 a.m. on May 31 when their banca drifted due to strong winds and rough seas.
