ILOILO CITY — Eight fishermen were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after their fishing banca capsized off the waters of Culasi, Antique while attempting to seek shelter from deteriorating weather conditions late Tuesday night (Aug. 4).

The Coast Guard Station Antique, through the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Culasi, launched a search and rescue operation after receiving a distress report at around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 4.

According to the PCG, a concerned citizen informed authorities that the fishing banca Taga Bukid had overturned about 5.7 nautical miles (10.5 kilometers) off Culasi while heading toward safer waters.
