TACLOBAN CITY — Seven coastal municipalities in Eastern Samar have renewed their decades-long alliance to safeguard marine resources, strengthen fisheries management, and secure the future of thousands of fisherfolk who depend on the sea for their livelihood.

The revival and formalization of the Alliance of Seven Municipalities for Integrated Coastal Zone Management(A7ICZM) on May 27 in Guiuan marked a renewed commitment among the municipalities of Lawaan, Balangiga, Giporlos, Quinapondan, Salcedo, Mercedes, and Guiuan.

That is to address growing threats to their shared fishing grounds, including declining fish catch, overfishing, habitat degradation, illegal fishing activities, and the intrusion of commercial fishing vessels into municipal waters.
