The mapping of voters with the 2002 electoral rolls, as part of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), is 92.55% complete in Udupi district, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer T.K. Swaroopa said on Tuesday. Addressing presspersons in Udupi, she said that the mapping, a preliminary of SIR, of remaining voters, is under progress.The Deputy Commissioner said that of the 10,64,524 voters in the district as per the 2025 electoral rolls, 9,85,185 voters, including progeny, have been mapped, leaving 79,339 voters yet to be mapped.Ms. Swaroopa said that Karkala taluk leads the mapping process at 95.98%, followed by Kundapur at 93.37%, Kaup at 93.31%, Byndoor at 93.04%, and Udupi taluk at 87.57%. She said the objective of the SIR is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out, and no ineligible person is included in the voter rolls. Schedule of events Explaining the district’s calendar of events for the SIR, the Deputy Commissioner said that the qualifying date is October 1, 2026. Preparation, training, and printing are scheduled from June 20 to June 29.Following this, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits between June 30 and July 29, concluding with the rationalisation of polling stations on July 29. Draft electoral rolls Ms. Swaroopa said the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 5, and the period for filing claims and objections will be from August 5 to September 4. Disposal of claims and objections, along with the notice phase, will be done from August 5 to October 3. The final electoral roll will be published on October 7. The final list will be shared among political parties and will be uploaded on the website of the Election Commission of India (ECI). According to an ECI order, rationalisation of polling stations will be done if a polling station has more than 1,200 voters, she said.The Deputy Commissioner said that the SIRs have been conducted 10 times in the past. The 10th and the most recent exercise, conducted in 2002-04, covered 29 States/Union Territories. Prior to that, the ninth SIR, conducted in 1995, covered 24 States/Union Territories.
