A total of 3.69 lakh tourists visited Yercaud during the 10 days of the Summer Festival and Flower Show held between May 22 and May 31, up from the 3.39 lakh tourists who visited the hill station during the events between May 23 and May 29 last year.Yercaud, known as ‘Poor Man’s Ooty’, attracts lakhs of visitors during the summer festival and flower show held every May. This year, the summer festival was inaugurated on May 22. Initially the district administration announced that the festival would be held for seven days until May 28. But following demand from tourists, the festival was extended until May 31. The events concluded on Sunday evening.Of the 3.69 lakh tourists, 1.53 lakh visited the flower show, including 1.30 lakh adults and 23,408 children. Likewise, over these 10 days, 47,268 people visited the Boat House, 69,421 visited the Pagoda Point, 18,032 visited the Gents Seat, 30,169 visited the Shevaroyan Temple, 10,135 visited the Killiyur Falls, 28,640 visited the Eco Park and 6,124 people visited the Karadiyur viewpoint.Horticulture Department officials said the structures and replicas made for the festival, including cows with calves, goats, hens, rabbits, ducks, bees, a farmhouse, and a teddy bear made using flowers, would be in the parks for one more week and that people could visit them in the coming days.
