Two persons were killed and two others sustained serious injuries in a collision between two motorcycles near Sathyamangalam in Erode late on Sunday night.The deceased were identified as Sathyamoorthy (24), a resident of Kenjanur Amman Kovil Pirivu, and Sakthivel (21), a resdient of Bharathi Nagar in Sathyamangalam. Police said Sathyamoorthy, who harvested banana leaves, was travelling on a motorcycle with his friend Vignesh (23). Sakthivel, a day labourer, was riding another motorcycle with his relative Divakar (17). The accident occurred on the Amman Kovil Pirivu–Chikkarasampalayam road when the two motorcycles collided head-on.Sathyamoorthy and Sakthivel suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. Vignesh and Divakar sustained grievous injuries.The Sathyamangalam police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam. They were later referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for further treatment. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
