Two people, including an 18-year-old polytechnic student, were killed and another sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were travelling on rammed a roadside tamarind tree near R.K. Pet in Tiruvallur district on Tuesday morning.The deceased were identified as S. Madhan, 20, and V. Devaraj, 18, both residents of Narasampettai. The injured, V. Jegatheesan, 23, who was riding the motorcycle, was Devaraj’s elder brother.According to the police, Devaraj was waiting to leave for his private polytechnic college in R.K. Pet, while Madhan was waiting for a bus to commute to work. Jegatheesan, who happened to be passing by on his motorcycle, offered both of them a ride.While travelling towards R.K. Pet, the motorcycle reportedly went out of control at a road bend near Rajanagaram and crashed into a roadside tamarind tree. The impact flung all three occupants off the vehicle. The police said none of them was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.Madhan and Devaraj suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot, while Jegatheesan sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital for treatment. The R.K. Pet police shifted the bodies to the Tiruttani Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
