World Milk Day was celebrated on Aavin plant premises on Mohanur Road in the district on Monday (June 1).Minister for Dairy Development C. Vijayalakshmi presided over the celebrations and distributed ₹22.57 lakh in incentives to 549 members of Aavin cooperative societies. She said that every year, World Milk Day is celebrated around the globe to explain the importance of milk and the milk producers. Milk is a complete food given by nature, which contains protein, calcium, vitamins and other minerals for humans. Milk plays a vital role in growth of bones of children, body strength for the youth and health of the aged. India is the biggest milk producer in the world, which is possible because of the hard work of micro and small farmers. Rearing cattle gives revenue and improves the livelihood of farmers in rural areas. Increasing milk production and ensuring milk standards is important, the Minister added.Earlier, the Minister inspected the Aavin plant and inquired about the products produced in the plant.
