The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) has approved the natural gas price for June at 35.62 euros per MWh, excluding transmission, access, excise duty, and VAT. The rate applies to supplies delivered by Bulgargaz EAD to end suppliers and licensed heat producers.
Regulators described the approved level as beneficial for households and businesses in Bulgaria, noting it is more than 10 euros per MWh, or roughly 25%, below current European gas exchange prices. The commission added that this advantage has persisted for three consecutive months. According to the report, April’s regulated price was about 20 euros per MWh lower than international benchmarks, while in May the domestic price also remained over 10 euros per MWh below market levels.
The June pricing structure includes the full contracted volume of Azerbaijani gas delivered via the Bulgaria-Greece Interconnector (IGB) under a long-term agreement with Azerbaijan. Additional supplies of liquefied natural gas were secured by Bulgargaz through trader contracts concluded after an organized auction.
Analysts cited by EWRC say Azerbaijani deliveries are a key factor behind the relatively lower domestic price, helping shield consumers from volatility on European markets up to June. However, the regulator warned that conditions may change in July, when the long-term Azerbaijani contract price is set to be updated, taking into account recent increases in international oil prices linked to geopolitical risks along key supply routes.
