DEPUTY Commissioner of Police (Administration) Junior Benjamin says no information about plans by gangs to make peace and unite to attack law enforcement officials has come his way.He said yesterday, if they do attack police, they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.The Express reached out to Benjamin following a video with two men on Friday, one of whom condemned the charges against Kaia Sealy.Sealy currently faces eight charges in connection with the January 20 police-involved shooting of her common-law husband Joshua Samaroo. She is currently in the United States receiving medical treatment. In the video, one of the men called for gangs to make peace between “Rasta City” and “Muslim City” in opposition to what he described as a system of “divide and rule” He also urged members of gangs “6, 7, 8 and 9” to prepare for a “revolution”.Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in a statement on Saturday, condemned the statement saying that “only sick and evil people would support calls for violent gangs to attack law enforcement officials and law-abiding citizens”.“This sick and evil call for gangs to unify to attack law enforcement officials occurred during the protest in front of the DPP’s office (last week) where protesters attempted to intimidate prosecutorial officials at work. Thank God the TTPS was present to secure the prosecutorial staff at work,” she said.Benjamin said the TTPS are called at this time to ensure two constitutional interests.“One is the whole idea of expression. A person’s freedom of expression in a protest and that of public safety and national security,” he said.He said the Police Service was prepared to ensure that the law is upheld and that anyone seeking to violate these constitutional interests will be dealt with in accordance with the law.“This is what I am prepared to say. We are therefore saying we are here to ensure law and order at all times and we will ensure the safety of our citizens, no mater what,” he said.He said they were actively involved in gathering intelligence about gangs and what information comes their way will be sent to the various police units to “nullify any situation”.
