MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian on Sunday urged local government units (LGUs) to strengthen fire prevention measures amid extreme heat conditions.
He also called on power distributors to intensify inspections of illegal power connections following a series of fire incidents across the country.

The senator issued the statement after visiting Barangay Sta. Ana in Taguig, which was affected by a fire on May 25, presumably caused by an illegal power connection or “jumper.”
