Reacting to the development in a statement on Friday, Sowore criticised what he described as a deliberate attempt by the police to frustrate the bail process.
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has condemned Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies, accusing them of serving the interests of the wealthy elites rather than protecting ordinary citizens, following the arraignment and remand of a 19-year-old blogger in Lagos State.
The blogger, Nurenorue Surpruchi, was on Friday arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged cyberstalking and defamatory publications targeting the Chairman of United Bank for Africa, Tony Elumelu.
Surpruchi was brought before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, cyberstalking, bullying, and defamation. He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following his arraignment, the court ordered that the teenager be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending the hearing of his bail application.
