Multiple organs of a 53-year-old man were harvested at a private hospital in Coimbatore after he died of injuries suffered in a road traffic accident at Perundurai in Erode district on May 24.Liver, kidneys, eyes and skin of Sathasivam, a lathe workshop owner, were harvested at Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) after he was declared brain dead on Thursday.The Transplant Authority, Government of Tamil Nadu (Transtan) allotted the kidneys and the liver to KMCH where the organs were transplanted on needy patients. Eyes and skin were allotted to two private hospitals in Coimbatore. Sathasivam is survived by wife Gomathi and son Haresh, said a release from the hospital.In another case of cadaver organ donation, multiple organs of S. Rithish Kumar (13) of Vaniyambadi, who was declared brain-dead after suffering injuries in a road traffic accident at Mangalam in Tiruppur district a few days ago, were harvested at Royal Care Hospital, Neelambur, on Friday.Of the harvested organs, Transtan allotted the liver to Royal Care; kidneys to KMCH and Sri Narayani hospital and Research Centre, Vellore; and lungs to Gleneagles Health City, Chennai, according to the hospital.
